What is qPCR Testing?

Quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (qPCR) is an advanced molecular diagnostic technique. Instead of relying on traditional, slower culture methods, qPCR amplifies specific DNA targets to detect the presence of reproductive pathogens with speed and accuracy—including Trichomoniasis, Campylobacter fetus, Mycoplasma spp., Brucella ovis, and Actinobacillus seminis.

  • Early Detection: Identify venereal diseases and pathogens before they can spread through your herd or flock.
  • High Sensitivity: Detects even trace amounts of pathogenic DNA.

Comprehensive Viability Analysis

Alongside pathogen detection, we evaluate the physical capabilities of the semen sample:

  • Motility Testing: We assess the percentage of sperm that are moving actively and with forward progression (requiring a minimum of 40% post-thaw progressive motility for frozen batches).
  • Morphology Assessment: We examine the physical structure of the sperm cells under high magnification to ensure there are no structural abnormalities that would prevent fertilization.

Testing beforehand mitigates the significant financial risk of wasting resources freezing non-viable semen.
